Brand saturation
Drew and I held the "Great Root Beer Taste Test" yesterday, with assistance from the wonderful and ever-patient Alma. We tested an amazing fifteen brands, and there were even some out there we missed (I don't recall seeing any Dad's, and I'm pretty sure Jones makes a root beer). But 15 was puh-lenty, believe me. Nice job documenting the taste test. You guys rule! Gald to see Barq's made top three. I rate IBC pretty high on my scale as well. My top three are Barq's (of course), IBC, then Henry Weinhard's.
Yeah, I was very surprised at how much I liked Barq's, since the caffeine and perceived lack of sweetness had turned me off before. But, the blind taste test proved me wrong. Although, I'm still not a fan of the caffeinated factor.
It's too bad we didn't include any Henry Weinhard's - I had also wanted to get Dad's, and some 1919 Root Beer, but that may be unique to Minnesota.
Next up: Root Beer float taste test. Flax and I need to come up with some way to get rid of all that root beer lying around.
Good to hear that Stewart's got a strong review from you, Flax. If you ever get a chance to hit New Jersey, there are several Stewart's Drive-in Restaurants in the Garden State.
It's like A&W, but much, MUCH better.
Milwaukee's entry didn't win your taste test (although I can understand how IBC beat it) but they at least won this promotional opportunity.
allow me to be the first to congratulate you on being utterly insane.
Drew: Barq's actually is bottled (canned) caffeine free in Salt Lake City, Utah. I prefer my Barq's without the caffeine, and have had my own taste tests between the caffeine-free Barq's and regular Barq's. It's pretty tough to tell the difference.
Swire Coca-Cola distributes the caffeine free Barq's in Utah, Idaho, parts of Northern Arizona and a few other places in the West.
That probably doesn't help you that much, but maybe with a little consumer feedback, we could persuade Coke to expand the caffeine-free distribution to other parts of the US? Just a thought.
